BLS Sample Submission FAQs

FAQ

Do I need to request sample bottles from BLS, or can I use my own?
We can provide approved sample bottles to ensure proper testing.

Please contact BLS representative if you need sample bottles.

Where can I get a Chain of Custody (COC) form?
COC forms are available in our website footer (button) and blank physical copies are also stocked at the BLS drop-off station in our foyer.

What if I drop a sample after hours or on a Friday after 2 pm?
After-hours drop-offs will not be processed until  the next business day.

How long will it take BLS to process my sample after drop-off?
Once received and confirmed compliant, samples are typically processed within a few business days.

Microbiological testing will increase the time needed for incubation purposes.

Noncompliance issues that can delay testing include:

Chain of Custody (COC) form is missing or incomplete.

Sample bottle was not securely closed with tape and spilled during transit.

A sample is missing a label or not clearly marked with an identifier.

Sample was not temperature-controlled (not placed in refrigerator/cooler where required).

Sample is missing compliance items at the after-hours drop-off station.

What happens if my sample is non-compliant?
Non-compliant samples are placed back in temperature-controlled storage, and a non-compliance alert will be delivered.

Are there special temperature requirements for transporting my samples before drop-off?
Yes for some sample types.

These samples should be kept cool during transport and placed directly into the designated cooler or refrigerator at the drop-off site.

Your account manager will indicate if the testing requires temperature control.

Are there additional costs for courier shipping vs. dropping off in person?
Yes. Shipping costs will not apply to drop off testing.

Is the after-hours drop-off station secure?

Yes. The BLS foyer station is indoors, temperature-controlled, and monitored to ensure sample integrity.
